HomeSushiI know the last catfish post didn’t please anyone, but I actually want to try this, I mean look at that, I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but this looks good. Catfish nigiri and catfish sashimi.

I didn’t drop you 🤣. it does “look” but I imagine it tastes like tilapia which I’m not a fan of.
That’s a no from me dawg.
Catfish are freshwater bottom feeders. I wouldn’t eat them cooked let alone raw.
I would totally give it a shot. I’m no purist
def no for raw catfish unless it has been handled and processed properly to sashimi standards. Heck even then I would have second thoughts about eating raw catfish.

As a good ol’ southern, I would be HYPED for catfish— but only if it was completely bastardized (Fried with a dollop of kewpie mayo 😍). As others have said, it’s just way too risky going raw.
🤮😵😵💫
Is this restaurant or home made ??
Nigiri looks awesome and sashimi has beautiful plating, but catfish isn’t meant to be eaten raw. It’s not so much not being someone’s cup of tea, you’re literally risking ingesting parasites. I’d stick with sashimi-grade fish from a fishmonger.
I didn’t know this was a thing. I’d give it a try!
Every day, we stray further from the Lord’s light.
Make sure and start a diary when you do so the doctors have a detailed account of the parasitic infection you will get
I’d try it but it probably sucks ass. It’s catfish, it’s freshwater, I don’t see how the raw version of a fish you normally want deep fried could be good.
You gon die if you eat that.
Catfish eat anything and everything, thats why its a bad idea to eat raw. They are pretty dirty fish. But deep fried though, fuck yes.
Sure hope that’s not fresh water catfish.
Not catfish
All fish used for sushi has to be frozen at -72 C in Canada. So there wouldn’t be a concern for parasites. Is that not the standard in the US?
Nice! Another fresh water fish that might be of interest to you: Carp. You’ll also get pushback from all of the pros in here. From the beautiful book “Mukoita I – Cutting Techniques – Fish”: https://i.imgur.com/fhAFY1n.jpg
I think it’s a great idea if you handled it properly! In fact, i wish it was more common for us to use the fish that’s locally available instead of importing fish that’s commonly eaten in Japan. It’s not sustainable. In Japan they’re eating with the season and location. We should be doing that here.

Hell no!!! I don’t want a parasite living in my body without paying rent!
🤢
My concern with raw catfish would mainly be because they’re bottom feeders and it would be risky and I’m not sure worth the risk, but karaage would be excellent
