Hello! We are visiting Japan in end April and booked 2 nights in Karuizawa. After seeing another post about the place being empty in April, I’m concerned if 2 nights might be too much.
For some context, we are heading straight to Karuizawa after a red eye flight, so we might take the first day slow in case we need some rest. We don’t mind a chill itinerary, taking our time to stroll around, enjoy the scenery and slow pace of life.
For now, we plan to explore old Karuizawa Ginza, cycle around (though I’m not the best at cycling), possibly visit Harunire Terrace, some churches or museums. Unsure if red bus is available by then to visit Usui Observation Platform. Still undecided if Shiraito Waterfall would be worth a visit at that time of the year.
Main questions: would the shops be open during end April? What are some recommended activities to do there, especially that time of the year? Happy to discover hidden gems and less touristy suggestions.
Thank you!
