Long story shortened but still long..
An agent showed us a property we really like.
Agent just so happened to be an older, Japanese male, looked pretty rough, maybe not necessarily killing it in the real estate game.
Said getting a loan likely tough for a foreigner, said he was a loan officer before (proudly pulled out a dusty loan officer ID card with a sad picture to show us). Said he knows everything about loans.. fair enough. I’m a high income earner but I have some other points that may make it tough as he says.
He took a week to get back to us and says getting a loan was impossible.
I went to a bilingual real estate agent after. Very quick, professional, got back to me in about 3 hours after talking with her bank contact and said we might have a chance at a certain bank, could set up appointment.
But since we saw the house with first agent, we need to get his permission for us to use second agent.
Wife calls first agent, he is not happy to hear that someone else can potentially get a loan for us even though he supposedly knows everything about getting loans.
Even called my wife back again, suggesting that we might get in trouble if we try to use a different agent.
Has anyone had a similar situation like this? If so, how did you handle it? Should we just give up on trying to get the place?
We love the home but definitely don’t want to work with the first agent. Any suggestions?
