I was doing my budget diary and noticed that there were two charges made two minutes apart at Uniqlo.
One was for the amount of 6070yen and the other is 5519yen. I definitely walked away with only one bag and there should’ve been one charge only. The 6070yen one is the correct amount.
It’s possible that 5519yen is the tax free total which I wasn’t able to get because I had forgotten to bring my passport so I ended up just paying for the full costs including tax.
Unfortunately I tossed out the receipt and I’m not in the same city anymore (but I could be back in the new year).
Is there any way to get my money back? How do I go about this in Japan? This purchase was not made with a credit card so I can’t charge back.

Without any receipt I don’t see how you are going to prove that you didn’t make two purchases – especially if you don’t go back right away.
Credit card
You can chargeback on your credit-card, explaining what happened, and leaving Uniqlo the option to contest if you aren’t telling the truth.
How did you pay if it wasn’t with credit card? IC card?
They won’t be able to do anything without a receipt and some good convincing. I’ve had to chargeback online purchases from them because they never refunded my returns. Support was utterly useless.
Actually, having thought about this a little more. 5519 + 10% tax is 6070, so that’s correct.
Have both charges settled? Are you sure they didn’t charge the tax free amount first and then when you couldn’t produce the passport, they reverted that charge and charged you the full amount?
If that’s the case, the tax free charge would be expected to drop off your account after a few days – but usually isn’t instant.
This amount is about $40 USD, you may have to just absorb this loss.

Never toss out a receipt until much later.

Did you try going through a tax free purchase but then couldn’t because you didn’t have your passport? If you had attempted a tax free purchase, it’ll take them a few business days to get the money back on your account. Most businesses quote like up to seven business days.
