  1. I wonder if this lack of interest in dating is driven by too many expectations about roles that are difficult to meet for young singles and overthinking ….

For example, “The man should be a good provider (make at least 1000万円per year)” immediately dramatically shrinking the pool of eligible men…

  2. Everyone making all these points…and I think there is some truth in them.

But it both annoys and amazes me how these people were basically denied any time or freedom for informal relationships since they were children and nobody says anything about that.

After school all the young people do is homework, cram school and club, and/or video games. Is it any surprise that people who never scheduled to meet a friend in their lives cannot schedule a date?

Is it any surprise that someone who never hung out with the opposite sex growing up can now only view the opposite sex as basically an alien species?

I think people are missing this because they are so terrified of anything that could be seen as promoting teen sex…..yet for millenia that is exactly when people were expected to be sexual.

And its interesting because both Japan and western socieities are killing themselves by squeezing the sexuality out of their young people but doing it for completely different reasons and through different means.
