みんなの日本語L23-1: こんにちは。I am Japanese. To study English, I am teaching Japanese in English. Write your sentences with “Plain Style (Dictionary Form/Taform) とき”. I will correct your sentences for JLPT N5 Beginner and Intermediate level learners.

**①Improvement of Writing: Instruction**

1, See the below “☆Basic Example Dialogue”, Try to write single sentences or Dialogue style with Grammar topic **“**Plain Style(Dictionary Form/Taform) とき**”** and post your sentences within 48 hours from posting this thread.

2, Beginner Level: It is OK to write just simple sentence by only Hiragana. (It is easy-to-read to make space between word and word). A lot of mistakes are necessary for improvement, so you do not have to hesitate.

3, Intermediate Level: See the below “☆Advanced Example Dialogue”. If you use this time Grammar topic **“**Plain Style(Dictionary Form/Taform) とき**”** **at least once**, you can make your dialogue freely. It is also OK to add more Person A&B part to make longer Dialogue.

4, I will comment and correct your sentences. Although I cannot respond to all (Especially, off topic) because I have limited time, I try to comment. Also, I welcome you to follow Reddit account.

**②Example Dialogues**

While I referred to “図書館で本を借りるとき、カードが要ります。” on Page 146 in Minna No Nihongo Second Edition Elementary Japanese 1, Translation & Grammar Notes – English, I used same grammar pattern and wrote another sentence by combining other words like below \[\*1\]. To make dialogue structure, based on \[\*1\] sentence, I wrote \[\*2\] Question sentence as Person A’s line. I added “\[ \] My grammar interpretation”.

**“☆Basic Example Dialogue”**

A: レポートを いんさつする とき、 このプリンターを つかいますか。 \[\*2\]

repooto wo insatsu suru toki kono purintaa wo tsukaimasuka

Will you use this printer when you print out your report?

B: はい、レポートを いんさつする とき、このプリンターを つかいます。 \[\*1\]

hai, repooto wo insatsu suru toki kono purintaa wo tukaimasu

Yeah, I will use this printer when I print out it.

\[In the lesson 22, we learned “Relative Clause” to explain a specific noun. This time, we will apply same pattern to explain “ときtime=Noun”. Thus, we can use Plain Style before Noun. いんさつしますbecomes いんさつする=Plain style present affirmative=Dictionary form. In a video, I will also introduce Taform+とき to indicate past event.\]

**“☆Advanced Example Dialogue”**

A: 買い物する時、普段(ふだん)、どうやって払っていますか。

B: 以前(いぜん)はカードや現金(げんきん)で払っていました。

でも最近(さいきん)は、買い物する時、このアプリで払っていますよ。

ポイントも貯まるし、お金の管理(かんり)も楽なので、便利ですよ。

A: そうですか。私はまだ、何かを買う時、現金で払っていて、決済(けっさい)アプリを使ったことがないんですよ。 今度、使ってみますね。

If you add \[ \] explanation and English translation, it will be helpful to understand and correct your sentences more accurately.

  1. 仕事に来るとき、私の財布をいつも持っていきます。

  2. > Aさん:なに…!あなたは…

    Mr A: What? You are…

    > Bさん:死ぬときに生きるのを戻りました。

Mr B: When I died I came back to life.

    > Aさん:どうして…

    Mr A: How….

    > Bさん: お返しするつもりです。

Mr B: I will get my revenge.

    > Aさん:まさか!

    Mr A: NO

  3. テニスをつかったあといきがきれます does this make sense or should it be..
    テニスをしましたあといきがきれます

  4. Aさん: ねえ、先生が怒ってたみたいんだけど、何があったの?

    Bさん: 田中くんが授業に間に合わないようで、廊下で急に走ってた。そのとき、先生が現れ、彼とぶつかった。

    Aさん: あ、そうなんだ〜 さっき田中くんを叱られてる瞬間を見たよ。

  5. I’m having a hard time progressing my listening comprehension, for example, when I hear:

    大臣のこうえん会長と北米産業振興会からの来客が2名

How are you supposed to know on the spot it’s 後援 out of 17 words that こうえん can mean? This is just one example, but I face exactly this situation frequently. Is this a problem even for natives?

    Thanks!

  6. what is the difference between using とき and using a conditional like 〜たら?

    図書館で本を借りるとき、カードが要ります

    図書館で本を借りたら、カードが要ります

My first impression is that using たら feels like it’s giving out information but I may be wrong.

    As for my original sentence

    出身に住むとき、花粉のアレルギーが現れます。
