I’m worried about my reading/writing being significantly better than my conversation ability.

I’ve been studying Japanese for a year, I probably passed N4 in December, and I feel quite confident in my ability to speak via text with proficient Japanese speakers/natives in a discord server that I use. But, my listening is god awful and when I talk I’m prone to making a lot of mistakes, like really bad particle usage.「はい、京都を行ったことがあります」-Something I said to a Japanese cashier not too long ago. I would never, ever make such a basic mistake in typing. I’m going to Japan in about a week and I’m very worried I’ve completely screwed myself and all my learning will be useless since I didn’t practice much listening. I tried to watch animes but gave up because I couldn’t understand anything without subtitles and it felt demotivating so I thought “I’ll do that later” but now it’s later and I haven’t done it. Can I just ask people to speak slowly? Should I bring a notepad and talk to people that way? or could it be possible for me to improve my listening ability in my short time span?
