Hello,
I moved to Japan alone 1 year ago on a 5 year Engineer Work Visa. I've made enough money from crypto this year to leave my job; however, I would like to continue living in Japan. If I leave my job, and send out job applications here and there to "show that I'm searching for a new role", would immigration effectively let me stay the duration of my visa?
Some other options which come to mind are 1) Student Visa or 2) Designated Visa holding 30m Yen, but my current Work Visa is better as it's for a longer duration / doesn't require you to participate in schooling / doesn't require you to leave the country.
As it stands now, I will pay ~$1m USD in taxes to Japan from this year if I'm still here, so maybe they would be willing to turn a blind eye to me without a job, but that's far enough out to where they may want me to leave before then.
Any advice is appreciated – thank you.
NOTE: I first tried r/japanlife and r/japan but the post was not approved and I was perm banned.
EDIT: I've done some research online, and this is my next stop to gather information before speaking to a tax expert. I'd like to go into that conversation as prepared as possible.
