I think I know around 300 kanji that I did not learn by themselves, just by recognizing them in vocabulary. And I don’t know if I should continue to study like this, because I thought that at some point it might be better for me to use a book, and I’d like to go towards Kodansha Kanji Learner’s course. But I have one concern with that, the book use mnemonics ( the main reason as to why I want to use this book ) based on other kanjis/components. Some of them that I already know, but not their mnemonics used in the book. I hope what I’m saying makes sense but basically I’m wondering if I should go through all of the kanji I already know just to learn their mnemonics and follow through with the kanji that I don’t know.
Genki workbook problem said to translate “The dish I ate yesterday was delicious.”
My answer was きのう食べたおさらはおいしかったです
The answer key was the same except りょうり instead of おさら. The vocab says おさら means plate/dish, but is it specifically meaning like a ceramic (or whatever) plate that you put food on and not the “meal” or “food item” itself? Or, is おさら just also acceptable here? Thanks
How closely do you listen when doing listening input? Some people say they do input for 3, 4, even 10+ hours a day, but surely for at least half of this time they’re only subconsciously listening?
Please let me know your ways of listening input over longer periods of time!
Got questions about some of the workbook excercises from quartet 1 chapter 2
1.私は曜日で着る服を決めていて、月曜日はピンクのシャツを着ることにしています
Confused with 決めていて. “Im deciding on the clothes i wear on the day of the week, so i make it a rule to wear a pink shirt on Monday”?
2. 学生は学期の最後に期末試験を受けることになっています。
the students planned that they will take the semesters final exam?
3. 私が目上の人と話す時に気を付けていることは、丁寧に話すことです
Confused with the ことは, Is it saying:
“When i speak with superiors, im careful(気を付けていること?), and speak politely?”
How old are オノマトペ in the Japanese language?
Did words like ニコニコ , ぺらぺら、ふわふわ… Etc exist back in the heian period for example?

> 私が触れるだけで噴水の水だろうと泥水だろうとキレイに浄化されるんだから
To confirm, 浄化される is conjugated in spontaneous form, not passive form, right?
Can i learn japanese using this anki deck – https://www.japanese-like-a-breeze.com/ over genki 1
I’ve heard genki 1 is a very well rounded comprehensive resource but I find it a bit of a slog.
Find the deck more engaging.
Ran into this example sentence on WaniKani and I’m confused about why から is being used:
その映画なら、すごくいい作品だったよ。
“That movie was a really great piece of work.”
Why use から here over は or が?
