  1. > 東京へ帰ってみると、松飾はいつか取り払われていた。町は寒い風の吹くに任せて、どこを見てもこれというほどの正月めいた景気はなかった。

What does 寒い風の吹くに任せて mean? I don’t get the grammar of に任せて.

  2. Can “〜などない” also have a degreeable meaning? as in not just “no such thing as X” but also “not remotely X”. I in particular see it used with some words like “資格などない” a lot where I feel “not remotely qualified” makes more sense than “not qualified or anything of the sort”. The same with say “愛してなどいない” to mean “I don’t remotely love him.” or “嬉しくなどない” to mean “I’m not remotely happy about it.”

  3. Reading the quartet 1 chapter 3 dialogue 2 居酒屋~日本らしさ感じられる場所, dont understand these sentences

    1.「日本らしさを感じたい」。そんな時は居酒屋に行くとよい。

Does 日本らしさを感じたい mean something like “I want to feel what japan is like”?

Is そんな時は居酒屋に行くとよい saying: “That time(when i feel like that?) its good if i go to an Izakaya”?

    2. 一つ目の特徴は、料理もお酒も種類が多いことだ。

I understand this as: “The first characteristic(of Izakayas) is that there are many food and drink varieties”

What does the こと at the end mean/do?

Also confused with the way the sentence is written because of the double も and 種類 after it. This might be wrong, but if it was written something like this “料理とお酒の種類が多いことだ” it wouldve made more sense to me.

    3. サラダやデザートがあるのは普通の飲食店と変わらないが、枝豆や唐揚げなど、「おつまみ」と呼ばれるお酒に合う料理がたくさんある。また、ビールやワインの他に、日本酒やチューハイなど色々なお酒が注文できる点も異なる。

1st time seeing a lot of the words here not sure if im understanding this well. Is the のは nominalizing ある? And i have no idea what 点も異なる in last sentence means. I understand this as:

“Its no different from a normal restaurant(普通の飲食店と変わらない) that has salad or desserts, but there are many food called 「おつまみ」, snacks which fit/match with alcohol(お酒に合う料理がたくさんある)like Soybean(?) and Fried chicken. Also, aside from beer or wine, you can also order many alcohol like Sake or cocktail(チューハイ?) the points differ(点も異なる?)

  4. What does にする mean here?

The following is from the PS2 game tales of destiny 2 walkthrough/攻略. I just wonder what does にする mean below:

(Gameplay mode “Hard” is available when “Grade is accumulated over 600” (and you will get the title “god of war”)

    HARD :称号戦神 を取得(累計GRADE 600 以上にする)

From grammar text book/dictionary にする means “to decide on” but if I take this meaning it doesn’t quite make sense. Does anyone know why にする is used here ?

    Thanks.
